Hello, I’m Attorney Steve Sharaf.
As Co-Founder of BLP Enterprises, LLC – and Partner with Irwin Pollack – my focus is on the business aspects of the legal profession.
Close to ninety percent of my focus is based around a simple business plan model, through which the core business functions of strategic planning, financial accounting, operations, information systems, market analysis and organizational structure are applied to the practice of law.
I want to be blunt: Going to work for somebody else, and putting your future into somebody else’s hands, isn’t normally viewed as a prudent strategy. Instead, you’re better-off by taking control and becoming the managing partner of your own career!
Today, your legal career is a business. If you don’t hold yourself accountable and manage yourself – and your career – the same way, you will fail.
To begin, I want you to ask yourself some very tough questions:
* What Makes You Different From All Of The Other Associates At Your Firm?
* Are You On a Partnership Track?
* Are You Satisfied With Your Income Level?
* Do You Have a Business Plan?
* Do You Know How To Create a Business Plan For Yourself?
Please, don’t panic if you either don’t have or don’t like your answers to my questions. After all, that’s our job – to help you get from where you are to where you want to go.
Our business-oriented program for lawyers gives first-year associates and up-and-coming lawyers the definitive overview on all the subjects rarely taught in law school, plus the things your supervisors never had time to tell you.
You’ll learn:
* The importance of having a personal “MAP” – My Action Plan. Where are you today? Where do you want to go? How do you plan on getting there?
* Ethical considerations: client funds accounts, office sharing and solicitation
* ABC’s of client satisfaction
* Just released: New markets for developing more clients
* Billing practices, collection and cash flow management
* How to have more flexibility and work-life balance
* 11 ways to avoid ethical problems and the disciplinary board
* Insider tips on value-based billing
* Hand-picking the right (profitable) clients
* Case management basics: What’s working and what’s not
* Step-by-step explanation of how to start your own networking (and referral) group
* Core competencies: preparing and managing discovery, motion practice, expert witnesses, trial technique
* The use of mentors and the “buddy system”
* Using technology to build – and market – your practice
* Time management: breaking projects into bite-size chunks
* Latest trends in alternative dispute resolution and conflict resolution.
* Law Firm Partners and Associates: How to attract clients, how to keep them happy, and how to distinguish yourself from every other lawyer in the firm
